If this solution is not to your liking then be warned. Trying to wean a TV addict off television by introducing them to another pastime is very dangerous. Under no circumstances should you introduce that person to the World Wide Web. Introducing a TV addict to the Internet is tantamount to taking a crackhead to Columbia. TV addicts should avoid the Internet AT ALL COSTS. There are billions of fellow TV addicts online who spread their addictions to others and try to lure innocent unsuspecting individuals into their world of addiction by introducing them to various TV websites and fan pages.
It only takes one show to turn someone into a TV addict. One Friends, one The O.C. One deliciously tawdry reality show to get a normal person hooked on television. But unlike regular drugs, such as cocaine and marijuana, TV is quite legal. In fact TV is government regulated. Yes, the government is well aware of the addictiveness of television, yet they continue to encourage it ... especially to young kids. Pokemon, The Wiggles and the worst and most dangerous BARNEY.
There are even some channels geared specifically towards particular groups of TV addicts. Cartoon Network. Lifetime - Television for Women, The SciFi Channel, MTV-Music Television. Channels even for the more highbrow of tastes ... HBO, SHOWTIME, A&E - Arts & Entertainment, Sundance, IFC - Independent Film Channel. And channels for the lower dregs of society ... Spike - television for men.
The bottom line is Television can help or hinder you. It is a drug that takes hold of the mind of a perfectly normal person and can either reduce them to a quivering puddle of idiot (Fear Factor) or can enlighten them and enhance their need for intellectual nourishment (Queer Eye For The Straight Guy.) It is not a child's toy and should be administered carefully in small doses until the person is fully able to experience the complete pleasure that is television.
Now if you'll excuse me, I uh ... well I got a thing ... Bye.
