Unfortunately I was cursed. I couldn't look away. It was like watching a train wreck, only infinitely worse. Blood spouted from my eyes. Or at least I hoped it would. Anything to save me from the sights unfolding before me. But alas there was no reprieve. I had no choice but to wait until the scene was fully acted out. Until those untold horrors were safely encased once again behind a barrier of clothing.
And therein lies the dangers of people watching. You can't even look away no matter how much you may want to, because the obsession is so inherent within you that you have to look and see everything to the bitter end. You have to watch them. You have to note every detail even if it pains you to the point of death to look.
Indeed, people watchers bear a great burden in society. Who else will be there to see the little hidden things that people would rather not be revealed. Who else would be able to write articles like this, in great detail, bringing warnings to you poor fortunate people who spend your life blissfully ignorant of the spectacles that are all around you.
Yes it's up to people like me to be there. To see everything so you all will have quaint little anecdotes to tell your friends and pretend they're your own stories. So you'll beware, that the things you do are always being watched by someone. To put into perspective all the strange little habits you have, so you'll know that you aren't alone, that there are plenty more freaks out there just like you. Leering after breasts. Excercising on trains. And displaying to the world things that not even god wants to remember.
So be on the look out for me the next time you're sitting on a train or bus or standing on the sidewalk, thinking about doing something undercover. I could be right next to you. Better yet, why don't you start doing some people watching of your own? Just don't get caught staring. Especially if you're in NY.
